The American Journal of Botany has published a compilation of papers dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Birth of Charles Darwin (Volume 96, Issue 1, January 2009) and to his recognition that the rapid diversification of flowering plants was an “abominable mystery”. Two of the three special editors are plant paleontologists. Paleobotany is prominently represented by several papers that explore different aspects of this question, and that present the still divergent views on the subject.
